Teaching:

I am teaching a painting workshop in Bali, March 2024. This is a beautiful retreat venue and wonderful place to do creative work. We still have one opening! Contact me for details.

Doing art is the way I have always integrated experiences; bringing the outside to the inside, the inside to the outside, the invisible to the visible- I love working on that ambiguous edge. My paintings are stories, all autobiographical; journal entries, memory, people, places, everything finding a way into the complexly woven narrative. All of our experiences live within us; memories of joy, exaltation, compassion, friendship, sorrow, love, inquiry, pain, solace, adventure - some readily available and some just in whispers and dreams. Sometimes I incorporate materials into my work that have had a former function; ephemera, maps, tickets etc, bringing bits of place and experience into the work. I am also exploring themes of routes and lines, how we are connected through time and space by visible and invisible strands of communication lines, blood lines, shipping lines, boundaries, mark making, harmonies. . .  the variety of trails that make up the constellations of our lives. The practice of art making is a constant process of renewal and the discovery and surprises on the canvas sustain us as artists. I feel very fortunate to have found this practice early in my life.

I work primarily in drawing and painting mediums at the ICB in Sausalito and live in West Marin.  I taught studio art and art history for 30 years and recently returned full time to my own work.  I have paintings in private and corporate collections around the country and frequently exhibit.  I have a B.F.A. in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and an M.A. from the University of San Francisco.
